Project
The Alexandra lifeboat has long been a distinctive part of Timaru’s maritime story. After serving its time and later being kept safely in storage, the vessel was awaiting a fitting place where its history could be appreciated by the community. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the local Lions Club – who championed the idea of giving the Alexandra a prominent and permanent display – the vision of making this historic lifeboat accessible to the public has now become a reality at Caroline Bay.
Working closely in partnership with the Lions Club, we helped bring this vision to life by constructing a purpose-built 50m² display building designed specifically to showcase the lifeboat. The structure features architecturally detailed precast concrete panels, with recessed elements that add depth and provide integrated areas for information boards telling the Alexandra’s story. A gracefully curved iron roof and expansive south-facing windows create a welcoming space where visitors can view the lifeboat.
The result is a thoughtful and enduring home for the Alexandra, one that protects the vessel while inviting people to learn about its significance. We are proud to have played a part in this meaningful project, helping ensure that the Alexandra has a fitting final destination and remains a celebrated part of Timaru’s heritage for years to come.
